Founded in 2017 by the visionary Tamika Joy Harris-Russell, Stars Performing Arts is not just a stage—it's a haven for dreams, a sanctuary for talents, and a beacon of inclusivity. With locations at 6710 Oxon Hill Rd. Suite 210, Oxon Hill, MD 20745, and 1300 Staples St. NE, Washington, DC 20002, Stars Performing Arts is breaking barriers and fostering creativity in the heart of the DMV.
Mission and Vision:
Our mission is simple yet profound—to provide a platform for those facing challenges to shine in the arts. At Stars, we believe that everyone, regardless of their hurdles, deserves a chance to express themselves, showcase their talents, and make their dreams a reality.
Founder's Vision:
Tamika Joy Harris-Russell, a Songstress and Entrepreneur, established Stars Performing Arts with the vision to break barriers in the world of art. "At STARS, we want to help make dreams come true," she says, embodying the spirit of empowerment and creativity.
Programs and Initiatives:
The Stars Take Ova Show: A youth-focused podcast amplifying the voices and talents of the next generation.
The Wisdom Bar: An initiative catering to the disabled, providing a space for wisdom-sharing and communal growth.
Artist Development: Nurturing and honing the skills of emerging artists, providing them with the tools to thrive.
Confidence Club: Fostering self-esteem and empowerment through creative expression.
Community Engagements: Stars Performing Arts actively engages with the community through various initiatives, including participation in events like the Blacks in Wax from the DMV, Express Yourself with Chalk Art for Mental Health, Juneteenth Parade & Festival, and the Annual Anti-Bullying Walk. These programs run yearly, creating a consistent impact in our community.
Specialized Programs:
Fashion Shows: Providing opportunities for those who always wanted to model or walk the runway.
Talent Shows/Showcases: Creating a stage for aspiring performers in singing, rapping, poetry, and comedy.
Acting Classes: Offering acting classes for those passionate about the dramatic arts. Learn monologues and stage techniques to bring stories to life.
Partnerships and Support:
Stars Performing Arts collaborates with resources that offer one-on-one support and in-class settings. We believe in the power of community and the strength that comes from supporting one another in the pursuit of artistic dreams.
